(Disclaimer, Qbeezy doesn’t follow GM very well. Meaning I don’t know all the options and shizz and most of my knowledge about GM is from the early 70's to 80's. Meaning I’ll probably say something stupid and/or wrong)

I drove this sexy bish yesterday. A 2016 Camaro SS in hyper blue.

Exterior:

Awesome. That blue is my favorite color. Well blue is my favorite color, so I’m super not biased. I’d rather the spoiler be a lip spoiler, but that’s just a preference. And the rims are nice. But first thing I’d do cosmetically would be to powdercoat then into a matte finish, #ChromeIsAwful.

Interior:

Why does GM/Chevy insist on making things way too big? The center console/big gulp holder is way too large. It unnecessarily protrudes out right where my freaking knee rests. Honestly if they would have just slimmed down that a bit even 1-2 inches each side it would have made a world of difference on feeling cramped.

Head room is great and I think I could fit a helmet in there easily, which is a problem in my current car. Seats were great. Not too bolstering but not blasé either. Just right. I’d take them over my couch. Though my couch is a hard ass anyways.

The infotainment is excellent. Sound system was decent. The paddles on the steering wheel felt good and very responsive. The steering wheel was thick and comfy. Which I prefer. But the star of the show was the heads up display. It was weird to see at first and bothered my eyes, but after a few minutes I used it to see how many G’s were being pulled on a tight road. Of course it told me my speed, but who the hell posts attention to that with all that v8 goodness? I will definitely aim to get a HUD on my next car. That good.

The Drive:

It was an awesome 25 minutes, maybe 30 minutes. Who knows. It just went by too fast. Couldn’t do a true 0-60, but a ~10-60 was stupid fast. Reminded me of my dad’s screaming metal death trap, except I wouldn’t hit the house with it.

The stability was awesome and handled even better than the 15 I test drove earlier. Very composed. The only letdowns were the steering feel and weight. Curb weight is 3,685lbs. Then add my chunky funky monkey body that is 3,985. Which I could definitely feel. Didn’t it lose 200lbs compared to the 15? Cause if so I’m out market for a 15! As for the steering, in normal mode, like I’d daily normal mode anyway, felt more numb than a streaker at a Bills game in January. My bad, the Bills playing in January? That’s not believable in the slightest.

When I put it in sport mode, the car came alive of course. I turned traction control off and did the damn thang. That thang was awesome and actually convinced me I would spend 40k on that car without hesitation.

After driving that SS, I can’t even contemplate the 3.6 or the 2.0. The last car I drove that was that remotely fast was a 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT on the track, and that car was bat shit crazy.

Overall, it’s an awesome car that I’d love to get, and could, but gotta get my wife from under her car. Responsibilities and shizz. Now I’ll patiently stalk dealers for the next 3 years to find another used, in that sexy blue.

Why is she under her car? Changing out the clutch or something? I mean, I know projects take time, but really, will it be that long?

Cause she can’t figure out what exhaust she wants and refused to use pb blaster on that last stubborn bolt!

I want one of these so bad. That color, the rumble. I forbade myself from driving one because I will take it home, I know it.

Given this response, I can’t decide between telling you to keep her for working on the car, or dump her for refusing to use bona fide magic on that damned bolt....

The Turbo is plenty quick, but after a couple of test drives, I don’t think I could live with it on a daily basis.

Magical. Absolutely magical.

That’s what I’m afraid of. I’m driving a turbo now around the same specs and i cant see trading one turbo 4 for another.

I don’t mean performance wise, but I think now I’d go V6. Just the cramped feeling I get on the inside and the visibility. That and our previous history(and current through work) with GM, and the decision to not get one was fairly easy.

the new Camaro SS is stupid fast, last weekend a few of my Camaro club buddies when to the drag strip for a test and tune night, I ran my 14 SS Auto Camaro and the best I could run was a 13.3 1/4. The club president just got a 17 50th Anniversary SS auto and with only 900 miles on it and still 100% stock clicked a 12.2 1/4. Not going to take much to dip into the 11's

Count me a member of the “robble robble but you can’t see out of it” crowd.

GM is pretty much the worst offender of bad visibility in non-exotic cars lately. Also their infotainment systems don’t get along well with my phone. Lots of bugs.

I think I could forgive the visibility, mostly because that backup camera is huge and the mirrors are manageable. But that sucks about the phone, I didn’t get to test that much.

Backup cameras don’t help with merging. Honda LaneWatch is pretty cool for that though—GM could use it in many of their cars.

In the past couple GM rentals I’ve had, after I pair my phone, maybe 15% of the time when getting in the car, music would play out of my phone instead of through the stereo. To get it to work, I’d have to turn off bluetooth on my phone, turn it back on, go into the infotainment’s settings to reconnect to the phone because initiating the re-connection on the phone doesn’t work, and do that while not moving because the car locks you out of the bluetooth menu while it’s in motion.

This might be some kind of glitch in my phone (Moto X Pure Edition), because I very occasionally have the same thing happen in my BMW. But it’s not nearly as frequent.

So the late 60's early 70's were famous for muscle cars. None of those cars could get close to 12.4 second quarter mile times. This is the best time ever for cars.

It really is. There’s performance at almost every price point + safety + comfort. It’s a great time to be alive.
